Scanno

Scanno is among one of the many villages in Abruzzo that has won the title of “Borghi Piu Belli d’Italia” awards (The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy) and is well worth a day trip and one of the highlights when travelling to Abruzzo. Scanno has just under 2000 inhabitants and takes around an 1 hour to reach from Abruzzo Villas.

 

Scanno is also close by to the National Park of Abruzzo which means you can combine the trip by visiting other villages nearby. Nearby is Scanno lake, the ski resorts of Passo Godi and Monte Rotondo, the highlands of Mount and Lake Pantaniello Greek, and the nature reserve of the Gorges of Sagittarius. Besides its charming characteristic town and its ricotta, pecorino and gregoriano cheese, Scanno is also known for how the women of Scanno dress – which is a traditional costume that dates back to the 17th-18th Century.
